The Postdoctoral Associate supports research activities at the University, under the supervision of a faculty member, in order to advance their knowledge and/or be documented by scientific publications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works and collaborates on studies related to field of study.
• Ensures the design, development, execution and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team.
• Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
• Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
• Contributes to scientific literature and conferences, when appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
• Must be detail oriented.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
• Doctoral degree or equivalent in their specialty.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
• No work experience is required.

Duties related to the College of Arts & Sciences:
Dr. Christopher Searcy is interested in hiring a postdoctoral scholar in Amphibian Metapopulation Dynamics in the Department of Biology at University of Miami (Miami, FL).

The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research to investigate the role of synchrony/asynchrony of metamorph recruitment in amphibian metapopulation dynamics. Research will be divided into roughly equal halves between collecting and analyzing new data on recruitment in the endangered Santa Cruz long-toed salamander and compiling and analyzing data on spatiotemporal variation in recruitment from other amphibian systems. Postdoctoral scholar must have interest in both conceptual advances in how we model amphibian metapopulation dynamics (especially from a demographic perspective) and in advancing amphibian conservation through collaboration with state and federal wildlife agencies. The postdoc will have the opportunity to develop skills in statistical analysis, demographic modeling, grant writing, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and writing papers.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or a related discipline, and experience conducting research with amphibians. Particular preference will be given to candidates who have experience with drift fence studies and/or demographic modeling. Other important qualifications are a background in statistical methods, a strong work ethic, problem-solving and time management skills, a track record of publications, and independent research experience.
