The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking applications for a tenure-track assistant, associate or full professor with expertise in human anatomy. This position is designated as a 9-month tenure-track appointment set to begin August 2020. 

Faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours of undergraduate and- graduate level courses during the academic year. The candidate selected for this position will primarily teach classes in human anatomy (lectures and labs); advise undergraduate and graduate students; develop and maintain a successful line of research and scholarly record; seek external funding that strengthens/broadens current areas of research; participate in both internal and external professional service activities; and demonstrate collaborative interests and collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement. Applicants should possess good interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Have a strong passion for anatomy education

• Collaborate with other faculty members to develop and deliver an integrated curriculum, blending basic science and clinical applications

• Employ multiple teaching methods, such as large and small group lecture, demonstration, discussion, simulation, peer-instruction, problem-based learning, and team-based learning

• Use state-of-the-art technology, including medical imaging, in lectures and labs to support cadaver-based teaching

• Coordinate and ensure consistency across multiple sections of lectures and laboratories each semester

• Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants in cadaver dissection/prosection

• Maintain a research agenda that integrates students in the study of human anatomy

The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition is a new academic unit in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences that merges expertise in human anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise science. The Department is responsible for anatomy education across all undergraduate health and allied health related programs (e.g. nursing, pre-medicine, pre-athletic training, pre-physical therapy) and is planning expansion to accommodate a Doctorate in Physical Therapy program. Enrollment in these programs and associated areas is expected to double in the next 5 years. 

The Department of Human Physiology and Nutrition will be housed in the William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center (Hybl Center) upon its completion in the summer of 2020. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to promote a multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative approach to education, research and clinical practice, driven by teamwork and a passion for translating research into real-world solutions. It will also promote the concept of "Exercise as Medicine" for patients with various diseases and/or disorders. 

This project benefits from a close partnership between UCCS and Penrose/St. Francis-Centura Health that brings together a unique and unparalleled combination of clinical practice, undergraduate and graduate education, combined with clinical, faculty and student research. Three centers of distinction will be housed within the Hybl Center, including the Center for Tactical and Occupational Performance, the Center for Athletes and Active Individuals with Physical Disabilities and the Center for Human Health & Performance in Extreme Environments. These centers will be the focus of collaboration between UCCS and Centura, combining existing knowledge and research with real-world application.

• A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Human Anatomy or a closely related discipline, conferred by 1/1/20 
• At least 9 months of human anatomy teaching experience at an institution of higher education
• At least 9 months of experience performing human cadaver prosections

Preferred qualifications for assistant professor applicants:

•      A research agenda demonstrating high-quality research, including publications and academic dissemination, within the field of anatomy
•      A track record of applying for and/or securing external funding for research
•      Demonstrated productivity in professional or clinical service

Preferred qualifications for associate or full professor applicants:

All of the above, plus:

•      Demonstrated internationally competitive and impactful research agenda with a strong record of publications and academic dissemination
•      Experience directing graduate student education and research
•      Evidence of contributions in teaching, research and service commensurate with the respective rank
