Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Office of Campus Activities and Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The mission of the UNCG Office of Campus Activities & Programs is to provide opportunities for students to create meaningful relationships, explore interests, and develop a sense of self and an appreciation for their community. We support opportunities for transformative learning through involvement. We encourage participation and engagement in student groups; planning, executing, and experiencing campus events and programs; and fostering leadership in the student community are cornerstones of involvement. Specific departmental responsibilities include the coordination of student group affiliation, student group leadership and training development, weekend life, planning programs for nontraditional students, and administrative advising of select student groups including Activities and Campus Events (ACE), Student Programming Assistants, the Student Media Board, and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Additional responsibilities include planning major campus traditions such as Rawkin’ Welcome Week, Minerva’s Middays, Homecoming, Luminaries, Fraternal Leadership Institute, Winterfest, the Spartans of Excellence Banquet, Relaxation Days, and SOAR presentations for new students and summer programming.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Student Groups and Programming, the Program Coordinator for Campus Activities & Programs (CAP) is responsible for student group management and campus wide programming. The Coordinator’s responsibilities are carried out through the teaching, training, and empowerment of students.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and two years directly related experience working with student activities and campus programming; Or a Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, Educational Administration, or a closely related field.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and CertificatesPreferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Student Development, Educational Administration, or a closely related field and one year full time experience working with student activities, student groups, and campus programming. Graduate assistantship experience will be considered. Experience and comfort in working in a multicultural environment and a commitment to the value of student activities as an experiential learning process.

Student Group Management

Essential Tasks

Responsible for providing support, training, and guidance to student groups as they plan and implement campus programs. Coordinate annual student organization registration process and provide support to the student group management database system (Spartan Connect, UNCG’s CampusLabs Engage product). Administer student group and advisor training series and manage student group office and storage spaces.

Responsible for implementing Minerva’s Middays a daytime programming model, major traditional events such as Rawkin’ Welcome Week, Spartan Family Weekend, Homecoming, end of semester events, and the Spartans of Excellence Banquet which all support the UNCG Programming Vision. Provides guidance for a well-balanced and varied co-­curricular program for the entire campus. This includes creating, planning, promoting, and sponsoring programs such as concerts, parties, festivals, carnivals, movies, and more. Collaborates with the Visual Arts Specialist to promote CAP initiatives and programs, including drafting social media and website content, building registration pages, and ensuring materials are consistent with University and CAP brand standards. Negotiates contracts with agents, vendors, and performers while maintaining University policies and guidelines.

Serve on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees as needed and as requested. This includes standing committees or ad hoc committees, such as search committees. Maintains thorough knowledge of State and University policies as they relate to student activities, purchasing, contract negotiations and building operations. Contributes to the body of knowledge in the student activities and college union field through presentations at regional and national conferences with organizations such as the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) and the Association of College ­International (ACU­I), and through publications in journals such as Campus Activities Programming.

    The University's Academic Affairs Division consists of seven academic schools, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Graduate School and the Lloyd International Honors College.
