Job Details

The Librarian supports Rowan College of South Jersey's mission statement and strategic directions and is accountable and responsible to assist the Head Librarian in overseeing Library operations, services, and resources to provide service and assistance to students, faculty, and the College community.  

Examples of Duties:

  1. Provides information literacy instruction and library use to support instructional programs
  2. Acts as Library supervisor in the absence of the Head Librarian.
  3. Provides professional library services in all areas of the Library.
  4. Provides individual and group guidance and instruction to students in methods of research, including use of the online catalog, databases and print resources.
  5. Oversees and supervises student personnel including orienting, training, and assigning work.
  6. Performs assessment to support the College and Library Strategic Outcomes.
  7. Performs circulation duties such as checking materials in and out, shelving material, reading shelves, sending overdue notices, and maintaining records as required.
  8. Assists with collection development, serve as Cataloging Librarian and provide acquisition, reference and circulation services.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Library/Information Science (MSLS/MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive responsibility in an academic library preferred.
  • Administrative experience within a Community College setting preferred.
  • Ability to work in a pleasant and effective manner with students, faculty, co-workers, and on and off campus communities and agencies.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions for software, library management systems (LMS), library equipment, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, instructional material, resource guides, and process and procedure documentation.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, patrons or employees.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suite, Springshare and other information services applications.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to effectively plan and prioritize projects and work according to established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of library terminology, process, procedures
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently with a high degree of accuracy
  • Commitment to the community college mission including addressing the needs of a diverse student population
