The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at The University of Toledo (UToledo) is seeking an outstanding educator and scholar to fill a lecturer position beginning January 2020 or later. The area of interest is mechatronics. The successful candidate will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories, supervise graduate student research, engage in scholarly and professional service activities, and support efforts toward a diverse and inclusive classroom environment. The department currently has 15 tenure-track or tenured faculty members, one lecturer and more than 900 undergraduate and 90 graduate students pursuing BS, MS and PhD degrees.

The Mechanical, Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) Department has developed new courses and programs in the area of mechatronics. The lecturer will teach courses in the areas of mechatronics and intelligent systems. This lecturer will prepare students for the evolving industrial needs toward data-driven, automated, and autonomous systems. MIME has designed three educational programs, all in the area of mechatronics, which will be offered by the lecturer: 1) a minor for undergraduate students, 2) a graduate certificate to address the needs of engineers currently working in industry, and 3) an online master's program. It is expected that these courses will equip students with the skills demanded by the industry, including working with electrical hardware, embedded systems, and control systems. These cross-disciplinary skills are necessary for a mechanical engineer to work in emerging industries (e.g. autonomous vehicles), to reinvent existing industries (e.g. industry 4.0/internet of things (IoT)), and to develop models and prototypes for new ideas and devices.
