Description:

Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the study of Judaism in the Department of Religion. The area of specialization is open, and the appointment begins July 1, 2020. We seek candidates with broad interests, able to teach a course in Hebrew Bible and to design courses in the study of religion that also contribute to the university’s interdisciplinary program in Middle East and South Asian Studies. Interest in offering thematic courses in some of the following areas is welcome: the comparative study of religion, religion in America, law and society, or religion and literature.

Washington and Lee University is a highly selective liberal arts college of roughly 1850 undergraduates with a law school of 400 students located in Lexington, Virginia. Qualifications:

A doctorate in religious studies, Judaic studies, or Near Eastern studies is required by the time of appointment; teaching experience is highly desirable.
