Position Summary

The Graduate School of Arts and Science is seeking a dynamic Assistant Dean for Professional Development. This individual, in support of the Public Humanities PhD Initiative, will act as an ambassador for Public Humanities at NYU, as well as the public and private sector. The Assistant Dean provides strategic direction and leadership for public humanities PhD students’ professional development and will assemble a comprehensive program that creates professional development opportunities designed to help prepare for professional life beyond the graduate degree. The Assistant Dean will also be responsible for the organization, development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of professional development services for graduate students across all disciplines. In this capacity, the Assistant Dean will seek out and cultivate relationships with non-profit, governmental, and private sector organizations in support of the Initiative’s internship program, as well as manage all internship placements for public humanities PhD students. The Assistant Dean will also direct all co-curricular components of the Initiative, which include developing and managing skill building workshops for PhD students, and counsel public humanities doctoral students on post-degree career options. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will manage all administrative support for the Public Humanities PhD Initiative.

Qualifications

Required Education:Doctoral Degree in relevant field. Must have experience in a university setting, broad knowledge of higher education and specific knowledge of issues related to graduate education.Preferred Education:Doctoral Degree in HumanitiesRequired Experience:5+ years' experience in related area and/ or higher education.Preferred Experience:Demonstrated experience in higher education, career counseling, or professional development programming. Experience with grant writing and management, budget management, and evaluation a plus.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent written, verbal, administrative, and communication skills.
