General Description / Primary Purpose

The University of North Florida is seeking a candidate for the full time position of Director of the School of Nursing in the Brooks College of Health. The applicant needs to be a dynamic person capable of meeting the challenging demands of a large, diverse nursing program which includes undergraduate traditional and accelerated nursing programs, RN-BSN program and graduate programs in nurse anesthesia, nurse practitioner and mental health nurse practitioner.

Job Function

The Director of the School of Nursing reports to the Dean of the Brooks College of Health and has primary administrative responsibility for the operation of the assigned group of Faculty and Staff organized into the School of Nursing. The duties of the position of a Director are to lead efforts and ensure completion to:
1.Recruit, hire, manage, and retain diverse, qualified Faculty/Staff of sufficient size and qualifications to carry out the mission of the School of Nursing (SON) and College. 2.Develop and market quality programs as a response to community needs in collaboration with the Faculty, Dean, and Associate Dean. 3.Maintain and improve the quality of teaching, research, and service within the SON. 4.Assist program directors, faculty and staff to prepare accreditation documents as needed and maintain accreditation status. 5.Preserve and promote an environment where research is considered an integral part of the academic process. 6.Support Faculty in the orientation and professional growth process, to include promotion and tenure. 7.Establish fiscal priorities for the SON in collaboration with the Faculty, Dean, Associate Dean, and Development Officer. 8.Manage the various SON budgets and facilities (e.g., labs) to assure effective and cost conscious School and College operation. 9.Provide a Vision for the Faculty and Staff and develop a strategic plan within the SON. 10.Develop creative means to meet the growing demands on the programs while incorporating the interests of the Community. 11.Supervise Office Staff and facilitate professional development and growth. 12.Maintain open and effective communication with Faculty, Staff, Students, and Administration and hold routine meetings. 13.Implement SON, College, and University policies. 14.Ensure that curriculum changes are coordinated with other entities across the university and ensure completion of faculty activity reports, course schedules, teaching assignments, program reviews, and other reports as needed. In addition, the Director for the SON will: 15.Teach a minimum of six credit hours in each calendar year. 16.Perform tenure appraisals and annual evaluations as appropriate on all Faculty and Staff.
