Job Summary
Manage composite planning, materials, assembly, testing, research and engineering activities for military composite project development including coordination of activities with and between a team of 4-10 scientists, engineers, students, contractors, and collaborators.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Work with research sponsors to manage composite materials development activities.

2. Manage planning, fabrication, scientific, and engineering activities for composite materials development.

3. Manage processing activities for composite sponsored research programs.

4. Prepare and present data and budget reports for all research activities with sponsors.

5. Manage all development activities for polymer matrix, fiber/fabric, filming and prepreg materials towards project goals and objectives.

6. Manage all research activities, data, report writing, and sponsor communications, and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
20+ years of experience in composite engineering and manufacturing management.Experience designing, fabricating and manufacturing composite structures, equipment and experienced in a variety of composite layup, shape forming and machining for finished structural composite prototypes and products. Lean manufacturing certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe machines, tools, equipment, electronic devices, and software listed below are representative of those which must be utilized to perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Utilizes personal computer, computer software (Word, WordPerfect, spreadsheet, presentation communications, e-mail).Oversees all activities for high viscosity tri-shaft polymerization equipment, filming, prepreg line, autoclave and other key pilot scale instrumentation.Develop, design and test materials with CAD programs.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical concepts particularly related to engineering and scientific calculations are required. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as statistical process analysis, frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis is required.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
