Towson University is accepting applications for a Research Chemist. This position will support the development of botanical-based pesticide to control pests of medical importance. The position requires the candidate to be well versed in insect toxicological assay development along with the corresponding statistical knowledge to interpret the toxicological results. Specifically, candidate will be familiar with fumigation, topical, and injection assays within laboratory settings.
Implementation of toxicological assays, specifically fumigation, topical, and injection techniques using on medically important arthropods, as well as interpretation of data. Implementation of behavioral assays with medically important arthropods. Perform statistical analyses including probit, ANOVA, and other analyses. Perform statistical analyses including probit, ANOVA, and other analyses. Rear and maintain medically important arthropod colonies (i.e., endemic bedbugs and mosquitoes). Prepare manuscript(s) for submission.
Master's degree and one year of experience. The candidate will have firsthand knowledge of standard mosquito rearing and bed bug rearing/handling procedures. The candidate will have prior experience performing electrophysiological studies that can be translated into work on insects of medical importance; must have a solid understanding of insect morphology and physiology; the ability to perform toxicological assays, fumigation, and injection assays; and must have knowledge of Polo Plus and Prism software packages and able to use EcoVision software.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary and Benefits
Competitive salary and a contract that offers annual leave, holidays, sick days, and tuition remission.
