The Health Equity, Law and Policy Research (HELPR) Lab is seeking a Health Policy Research Specialist Intermediate to support its mission. The Health Equity, Law and Policy Research Lab is a vehicle for health policy and equity research in the University of Virginia's Department of Public Health Sciences. Our mission is to leverage the potential of research to add statistical rigor and unique insights to health policy discourse at all levels of government to synthesize knowledge from the growing health policy evidence base to improve health and health care for all Americans.

Position Description:

HELPR Lab seeks a highly motivated Health Policy Research Specialist Intermediate who is interested in engaging in translational health policy research. The Research Specialist Intermediate will conduct independent research and orchestrate research projects of graduate students and medical residents in the lab. Current research activities include projects on health care access (including the cost of insurance), drivers of health expenditures, evaluation of existing federal programs (Medicaid), and social drivers of health outcomes. The ideal candidate for this position is excited about working collaboratively with others to produce evidence-based policy recommendations. Additionally, the ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong leadership and organizational skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Conduct innovative independent research in health policy 2. Assist with project concept development and implementation 3. Coordinate graduate student research projects 4. Draft grant proposals for management 5. Perform administrative tasks to ensure smooth operation of the lab

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Economics, Health Policy, Public Policy, or Epidemiology 2. 2+ years of health policy or public health research experience 3. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team 4. Strong attention to detail 5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
