This Perkins-funded position will provide counseling/advising for Perkins-funded programs and will will coordinate, plan, develop and deliver comprehensive advising, academic and financial aid support to all non-traditional CTE enrolled students. This individual will address non-traditional students participating in CTE programs, and promote services that are aimed at persistence, program retention and completion. The position reports to the Dean of Student Support Services. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordinating all financial aid, advising and academic services for CTE non-traditional students; establishing a system to assess non-traditional CTE students’ academic progress towards degree completion; tracking, monitoring and following up with all students under assigned cohorts and further developing and strengthening a system to document retention and attrition statistics; compiling and analyzing demographic data of students; documenting case notes and maintaining records; creating reports and compiling information to evaluate and adjust support services as needed; planning, organizing and coordinating activities, trainings, guest speakers and workshops for program persistence and completion including resume building and interviewing skills, identifying and pairing students with mentors; serving as a resource to faculty and staff on issues pertaining to supporting non-traditional CTE students and functioning as a liaison to community and industry/employer based supplemental resources and services such as mentoring, job shadowing, and placement opportunities.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field; Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Vocational Rehabilitation or related field preferred. Two years’ experience working with individuals in nontraditional careers within an institution of higher education; Experience working in student advising required. Knowledge of Federal and NJ State financial aid a plus. Full knowledge and understanding of FERPA is preferred. Knowledge of state and federal laws and statues relating to the rights of individuals with disabilities with specific attention to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act is a plus. Must have the ability to develop workshops, possess strong presentation skills and be able to maintain accurate files and records to ensure documentation is in compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required; Extensive knowledge of Datatel/ Colleague preferred. Must possess excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills and be able to multi-task assignments. Strong analytical and problem solving abilities a must as well as sound judgment capability and ability to make routine decisions. Must be a team player as well as the ability to work independently. Familiarity and ability to work respectfully with a diverse student and employee population is required. Must be able to travel to any of the three locations (Paramus, Hackensack and Lyndhurst) and work some evenings as needed.Contact:
