SUMMARY:

The Engineering Instructor and Safety Coordinator is a non-tenure track 9 month position. The position will provide critical oversight of the development and support of the Shirley MakerSpace. The position may be expected to provide instruction in one or more of the following areas: technology related courses including but not limited to Computer – Aided Design, Product Design and Development, and freshman introduction courses. The position will also lead, coordinate and maintain departmental safety procedures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction at the undergraduate level
  • Supports and develops the Shirley MakerSpace
  • Teach up to five undergraduate courses
  • Prepare syllabi and update course materials
  • Advise and/or mentor undergraduate students
  • Develop curriculum for new and/or existing undergraduate programs
  • Deliver instruction both online and/or on any of the university campuses (Commerce or Dallas-area)
  • Teach (as needed) during the day and/or in the evening
  • Develops departmental safety procedures and safety training modules
  • Delivers student laboratory safety training
  • Performs periodic safety checks on departmental equipment
  • Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Acts as the department lab coordinator and works with CITE to ensure lab software is up to date and operational
  • Maintains and regularly updates department profile of all software and hardware inventory and initiates software license renewals
  • Work cooperatively with others in the department, college, university, profession and community
  • Contribute service to the department, college, university, profession and community
  • Supports departmental ABET accreditation processes
  • Contribute to the facilitation of a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology Management, or related field from an ABET accredited institution
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Working knowledge of and experience in teaching engineering computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Commitment to effective teaching. Experience teaching classes online courses or in a hybrid format. Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Other Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the US

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience with leadership or management of Makerspace. Project Management experience. Safety management experience, including the development of laboratory safety plans. Inventory control and documentation experience. Knowledge of obtaining grants for STEM training of high school teachers

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

May supervise and train  student workers or graduate assistants.
