Job Details
Ithaca College Dining is creating a pool of candidates to fill anticipated full and/or part-time Food Service Worker openings. Food Service Workers may be responsible for a variety of tasks including the preparation and presentation of a variety of hot and/or cold food items, serving as a barista or bartender, working on catering events or acting as a cashier in a campus dining location.
Position/Job Responsibilities1.Responsible for learning and adhereing to all food preparation guidelines as established by the culinary leadership team for Ithaca College Dining Services.
2.Prepare food under supervision in accordance with current applicable federal, state and cultural standards, as well as guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided.
3.Ensure that the the dining hall or retail operation kitchen and each individual workstation is set up for every meal with all needed ingredients and equipment.
4.Safely utilize and operate a variety of utensils including knives & equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
5.Read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records in order to accurately plan production.
6.Clean and sanitize all work stations and equipment and follow all Ithaca College and other relevent regulatory rules and procedures.
7.Attend all required training sessions including allergy, foodborne illness, and ID verification, cash handling and safety training.
8. Educate customers by presenting and explaining the menu item, retail offering, catering or coffee drink menu.
9.Sell and/or serve coffees and other beverages by explaining differences in coffee beans and coffee preparation machines and demonstrating how brewing equipment operates.
10.Serve as a catering staff member for large and small catering events on the Ithaca College campus. Deliver and set-up food service as needed.
11.Operate a variety of point of sale equipment in the campis dining halls and retail locations.
12.Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful Ithaca College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
Position/Job QualificationsPrevious experience working in a food service operation or other relevent retail setting is required. Previous work in a college/university setting, a resturant, or other relevent establishment is preferred. Ability to adhere to food safety and service standards as set by Ithaca College Dining Services staff is required. Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to provide positove customer service while working effectively and respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment is required. The Food Service Worker may be required to obtain food safety certification upon hire.
