Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Dean of the Daniels College of Business, the Assistant Dean for Finance is responsible for all financial and some of the administrative activities at the College, including, without limitation, financial policies and procedures, budget development, financial controls, facilities management, personnel matters, project management, and strategic initiatives. This position has an independent (dotted) reporting line to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Financial and Business Affairs on matters relating to budget development, planning, and management.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and manage operating budget, including budget modeling, forecasting, and deployment of tuition dollars, operating dollars, current-use gift funds, endowed funds, and reserve funds in a manner aligned with Daniels strategic priorities and the University's policies and mission.
  • In collaboration with the Colleges marketing and recruitment staff, forecast graduate student enrollments and model projected tuition revenue.
  • In collaboration with key recruitment staff, develop annual scholarship awarding plans and submit awards for graduate students using both tuition discount and gift and endowment funding.
  • Review budget requests submitted by Daniels department heads and make recommendations to the Dean regarding allocation of the Colleges expense budget.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and implement all financial functions at Daniels, including, but not limited to, revenues and receivables, purchasing, accounts payable, and fiscal reporting. Train and manage performance of unit-level employees performing these functions.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are completed timely and accurately and are in compliance with applicable accounting principles, University and federal policies, and donor restrictions.
  • Review and approve all personnel actions, including position postings, offers of employment, and position changes.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, the Senior Associate Dean, and Chief Operating Officer on the annual merit evaluation process. Serve as the primary division liaison between the University Human Resources Department and the College.
  • Oversee the technology at Daniels, including the management of long-term financial planning for technology upgrades, deployment of new technology, and ensuring high-functioning technology support for Daniels constituents.
  • Monitor the maintenance and any renovations of the 3 buildings that house the classrooms and offices of Daniels.
  • Manage and implement emergency preparedness and business continuity planning efforts.
  • Direct the submission of reporting to external organizations, including AACSB and various ranking institutions.
  • Review and approve all contracts that encumber the University for compliance with contracting policies and for funding availability.
  • Manage the Colleges faculty teaching points database and the annual payments for any overload teaching

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced ability to visualize, articulate, and solve problems quantitatively and qualitatively and make sound decisions based on available information
  • Capacity to solve complex problems with creative solutions
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and managing processes that bring about the successful completion of specific deliverables
  • Excellent computer skills, including facility with spreadsheet and database applications
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Seven years of progressive work experience involving budget preparation and monitoring
  • Three years of management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, higher education, law, or related field
  • Experience with budget operations in a higher education setting
  • Proficiency with Banner software
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting practices

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
