Chancellor

Indiana University Northwest, a comprehensive regional campus of Indiana University, is seeking a dynamic, innovative campus leader to serve as the institution’s next Chancellor.

IU Northwest is located in metropolitan Northwest Indiana in the city of Gary, approximately 30 miles southeast of Chicago and 10 miles from the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Park, the nation’s newest national park. The campus leads the region as the premier urban campus, dedicated to serving the needs of approximately 4,000 students, and offering primarily bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Indiana University’s most diverse campus, IU Northwest is committed to academic excellence as it positions graduates for professional and civic leadership with more than 65 undergraduate, graduate, and pre-professional degree options. The academic program is delivered by the Schools of the Arts, Education, and Business and Economics, and Colleges of Arts and Sciences, and Health and Human Services. The campus is also host to the IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary, which offers the four-year M.D. degree and actively involves IU Northwest students in research and local healthcare needs. IU Northwest emphasizes effective and innovative teaching as its primary mission, together with faculty and student research, and engagement on campus and in the community. Indiana University Northwest is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). As one of Northwest Indiana’s anchors, IU Northwest considers community-based engagement a vital strategic priority. The Chancellor will take a leadership role within Gary and the region as the area continues to redefine its future.

The Chancellor is the chief executive officer of the campus and exercises broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, student, financial, development, and administrative dimensions of the campus, in coordination with university administration and the other Indiana University regional campuses. The Chancellor reports to the IU Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs. Together with the chancellors of the four other IU regional campus, the Chancellor serves on the EVP’s Regional Campus Cabinet, which oversees the extensive collaboration among the campuses in accordance with Blueprint 2.0, the campuses’ collaborative charter.

IU Northwest seeks an energetic and dynamic individual, with a demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse student population, to guide its campus commitments of excellence in teaching and scholarship, student centeredness, and engaged citizenship. The Chancellor will provide strong leadership in advancing current goals and also establishing new and ambitious ones in what promises to be an exciting era for the institution and its community. The Chancellor will be an advocate for the campus within the broader university and with external audiences. The Chancellor will strengthen existing relationships with alumni, as well as seek and establish new partnerships within the community and beyond that will be mutually beneficial. Strong candidates will have a demonstrated record of leadership as an executive officer and have extensive experience with higher education, including a passion for student success. A deep knowledge and understanding of the academic mission and enterprise is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strategic thinking and also possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, be collaborative and creative, and be able to articulate a vision to diverse audiences. Traditionally, chancellors of Indiana University’s regional campuses have held terminal degrees and have demonstrated a record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with appointment as full professor at Indiana University Northwest.
