Research Assistant, de Assis Lab - Georgetown University Medical Center

Research Assistant, de Assis Lab - Georgetown University Medical Center

The research in de Assis Lab focuses on non-genetic inheritance of cancer predisposition. Through our research, we seek to understand how paternal obesity, dietary patterns, stress and exposure to environmental toxicants before conception can modulate the risk for cancer in the next generation, including cancers of the breast and pancreas as well as neuroblastoma.

The Research Assistant will monitor the breeding and production of mouse colonies for laboratory experiments, overseeing the maintenance of breeding colonies of mice for ongoing laboratory experiments. This person will develop and assist with laboratory assays supportive of ongoing research: proliferation assays, protein purification, biochemical and molecular analysis of samples, miRNA mimics/antagomirs transfection in cell lines, tissue culture maintenance. Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist other lab members with maintenance of laboratory chemical safety procedures and compliance measures.
  • Assist with writing protocols and data organization.
  • Presentation of results at lab meetings; training other lab members and generating reports are also duties for this position.
  • Facilitate animal care: Oversee the maintenance of breeding colonies of mice. Manage animal protocol and experimental procedures.
  • Assist with generalize laboratory management; record keeping maintenance of laboratory chemical safety procedures and compliance measures.
  • Presentation of results at lab meetings; safety training of other lab members and generation of reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience in animal care, cell culture molecular biology/biochemistry
