The Health Sciences Collegiate Academy is a unique partnership between South Lake Hospital, Lake County Schools, Montverde Academy, Lake-Sumter State College, and The University of Central Florida.  The Academy’s purpose is to create a learning community that will maximize the likelihood of success in a rigorous STEM or health sciences-focused curriculum designed to serve a broad and diverse spectrum of students with a passion for healthcare and a willingness to commit to a program of higher education.  The Academy will serve the needs of the health care industry by increasing the pool of qualified residents in the workforce and will enhance economic development in our region by demonstrating the commitment of our community to a quality education for our youth. 

The Director is responsible for the oversight, management, and operation of the Health Sciences Collegiate Academy serving students in grades 9 to 12.  The Director’s responsibilities include building and maintaining collaborative relationships with all current and future partners, strategic planning, budget management, research and administrative functions, communication with stakeholders, and marketing.  More specific duties include: establishing and maintaining curricular guidelines for the project; establishing policies and procedures in compliance with state regulations and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) guidelines; integrating the project into the larger context of higher education and workforce needs; and providing reports and communications to the Governance Committee.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Learning, Student Success, People, and Forward Thinking, in all interactions.

Position reports to: AVP of General Studies.

Incumbent supervises: May supervise 1-2 employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:      Master's Degree in Health Sciences, Education, any STEM field, or other applicable area.

EXPERIENCE:      Five or more years of experience in an educational environment and three years demonstrated experience in K-12 and/or post-secondary program development and/or administration.  Teaching experience highly desirable.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide oversight and operation of the Health Sciences Collegiate Academy which includes establishment of office functions, operations, and tasks. Serve as chair of the HSCA Operations Committee.

Engage in research, budget management, administrative, and programmatic functions as part of the college’s larger planning and institutional effectiveness structure.  Maintain strategic and annual planning and analytics.

Serve as liaison among partners to develop, maintain, and enhance Academy partnership including local school districts, Montverde Academy, local hospitals and other healthcare facilities, and the University of Central Florida. Facilitate a Healthcare Learning Community which includes seminars, experiential learning, and summer academy events for program students.  Engage in public relations/marketing activities and communications to promote the project and collaborate in resource and grant development with partners.

Establish and implement policies that conform to established college rules and procedures and that are in compliance with state regulations and SACSCOC guidelines.  Collaborate with administrators and faculty to establish and maintain curricular guidelines for the project.

Identify workforce needs in the area of health careers and work with various local and statewide entities to facilitate workforce certifications and educational pathways in collaboration with workforce administrators at the college.

Serve as a liaison in providing reports and communications to the Governance Committee.

Perform other duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  Demonstrated strong organizational, consensus-building, collaboration, and management skills.  Demonstrated leadership and effective communication skills.  Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a timely manner.  Demonstrated knowledge of higher education curriculum, workforce education structures, and learning communities/experiential learning required.  Experience with dual enrollment, high school outreach, secondary education administration, and knowledge of STEM fields/healthcare professions preferred.
