The Division of Development and Alumni Relations Office of Communications is responsible for planning, producing and executing all marketing and communications efforts that support the University of Georgia’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. It is charged with helping engage more than 324,000 alumni around the world, in addition to donors, students, parents, companies and foundations.

Preferred Qualifications

•1-4 years directly related experience
•Completion of a bachelor’s degree – preferably in marketing, public relations, journalism, English or related discipline
•Experience in client services/customer service desired
•Experience in media relations is beneficial, but not required
•An eye for design and/or knowledge of design programs is a bonus

Position Summary

The Communications Associate will play a key role in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations’ (DAR) Office of Communications. This team of approximately 15-20 staff members and student interns is responsible for producing all communications and marketing materials to support the university’s alumni engagement and fundraising efforts–efforts that continue to grow and be more successful as our outreach efforts are enhanced. This position will provide project management, marketing planning, and writing support for 2-5 units within the division, as well as anywhere from 3-6 content projects of varying scope and deadlines at any given time. In the execution of these tasks, the Communications Associate would coordinate with designers, multimedia specialists, digital specialists and communication coordinators to increase the team’s overall capacity to produce high quality, effective marketing plans and materials. S/he will regularly interface with leadership and staff members of assigned units, helping to develop and execute marketing plans throughout the year that will support each unit’s and the division’s goals. In essence, the Communications Associate will play a key role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing efforts that promote fundraising, career development and alumni engagement among the University of Georgia’s many target audiences.

Manage projects and help build marketing plans for two Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) units. Assist with marketing and project management for three DAR units.

*This will involve cultivating relationships across the division, maintaining a positive and supportive attitude, ensuring work is consistently high quality, collaborating and meeting regularly with DAR Communications specialists, acting in the role of creative writer as work is produced, and participating in project planning with units. It will require proactively recommending media relations strategies/tactics, communicating project progress to all interested parties, adhering to deadlines, following DAR Communications’ workflow processes, prioritizing the most strategic work, building communications plans, and identifying opportunities for new efficiencies through collaboration across the division.

Develop copy and support content creation for unit-driven projects.

Develop content that follows AP Style, is factually correct, and positively reflects the UGA brand and support DAR and UGA goals. Writing projects will include, but are not limited to, headlines, subject lines, body copy, social media posts and digital advertising. This copy will be developed in collaboration with DAR Communications team members.

*In collaboration with the DAR Communications digital team, the individual will develop a content strategy for those sites and prepare a plan for updating them regularly. Content development will be executed by this individual or delegated to others as appropriate. Sites should follow AP Style, be factually accurate, positively reflect the UGA brand and support DAR/UGA goals.
