This new position will coordinate and help administer all molecular parasitology and nutrigenomics research on for the Poultry Science Department as well as at the Poultry Research Facility. It will also help the department maintain a strong industry presence coordinating industry related training and services in poultry parasitology as well as maintain related chemical and biological safety requirements and records for inspection.

Coordination of administrative and technical arrangements for all molecular parasitology and nutrigenomics research internally as well as at the Poultry Research Facility. Coordination of personnel, and granting organizations as necessary. Designing, planning and implementing research involving the major parasitic diseases of poultry, requiring extensive knowledge and comprehension of various fields in which the research is performed (in-vitro, and in-vivo techniques, etc. ). Data collection, sample collection (tissues, blood, feces, etc) from research animals. Supervision of the collection and analysis of data generated in projects. Oversight of all projects.

Supervision and maintenance of all equipment, facilities, and machinery. Coordination of the use of equipment and facilities by personnel and students. Responsibility for the purchase of supplies and equipment.

Instruction, supervision, interaction and/or participation in the work of industry scientists, visiting scientists, post-doctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students in research or class projects for senior faculty. Training, direction, and instruction as necessary of personnel/students in techniques and procedures to be used for various projects. Collaboration in research projects within the department as well as with other departments, other universities, and industry. This sometimes requires travel to other sites, national and international.

Search of library and computer databases for research and technical information, published and unpublished information relevant to projects. Correct design and analysis of research projects. Development of methodology to approach and solve complex problems using independent judgment based on extensive experience and research. Analysis and evaluation of techniques/procedures. Flexibility to devise new techniques as needed for ongoing research projects. Manuscript preparation and presentation of data at meetings.

Maintenance of lab records of chemicals, hazardous compounds, and animal use with records of usage, and disposal. Coordinates all re-licensing requirements. Maintains appropriate safety standards and good animal practices. Instructs and insures compliance with all regulations from all personnel in the lab. Monitors methods to assure compliance with all regulations (Federal, State, and University). Maintains an up to date knowledge of new rules, regulations and policies on chemical and animal use (university wide, state and national changes.) Extensive knowledge of the environmental and health issues related to chemical and pathogen usage.
