Penn Engineering is hiring a talented career services professional that can draw upon the strength of the Penn community to support professional development for online and on-campus students.

Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Master’s and Professional Programs and working closely with central career services, the Engineering Online Learning office, engineering academic departments and other key stakeholders across the school, the Associate Director will develop, implement and oversee a student-focused and networking based professional development initiative.

Focusing on scalability, the Associate Director will use technology to create meaningful connections and build community between students, alumni, faculty and employers. Specifically, the Associate Director will be responsible for the development of activities, events and programs that are customized to the needs of the various populations of career starters, switchers and advancers in Penn Engineering. Responsibilities include: working closely with alumni relations to create cross-generational connections and mentorship programs, creating and nurturing relationships with employers to ensure our students receive the information they need to make informed decisions about their career path and have early feedback on their career readiness, and working with the lead data scientist in Penn Engineering to collect and manage relevant student data and developing a catalog of virtual and remote events that serve a geographically diverse population.

Serving as an expert and innovator in the career readiness space, the Associate Director will stay at the forefront of engineering professional development practices, regularly solicit and analyze feedback from students and use data to inform decisions and refine programs.

Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive professional development program that compliments and maximizes offerings from central career services. Specifically, spend time researching the needs of the students in engineering (career starters, switchers and advancers) and propose remote and virtual activities, events and programs that support our diverse population.
  • Utilize technology to create and nurture a network of currently employed students, alumni and employers to ensure our students receive the information they need to make informed decisions about their career path and have early feedback on their career readiness. Create key partnerships with industry to stay abreast of hiring trends across the engineering disciplines.
  • Work closely with alumni relations to create cross-generational connections that result in alumni talks, events (both physical and virtual). Develop a comprehensive technology based mentoring program that provides meaningful feedback and guidance to our students.
  • Regularly solicit and analyze feedback from students and use data to inform decisions and refine programs. Specifically, work with the Penn Engineering lead data scientist to produce and analyze post-graduation data, integrating data from engineering survey, and data gathered from other sources (ISSS and central career services).
  • Stay at the forefront of innovation and serve as an expert in engineering professional development. Advise key stakeholders in the engineering schools (faculty, senior leadership and staff) on trends and best-practices in the area of professional development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Experience in higher education student services, career services or professional development is strongly preferred.
