GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Financial Aid as Chief Financial Aid Officer is responsible for the managing the College's federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. This position provides leadership, planning, and direction to the Assistant Director, Financial Aid Officers, Financial Aid Specialists, and other staff as well as direct service for the administration of the student financial aid program. The Director ensures proper training and resources are available to financial aid staff and the delivery of optimal services to all students, staff, and stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Ensures the efficient daily operations of the Financial Aid Office.Reviews, interprets and implements all regulations for federal and State awards and ensures compliance to those regulations.Creates, updates, and supervises the College's procedures for all aspects of the student financial aid program, including but not limited to: budget and cost of attendance processes, application processes, verification processes, packaging and awarding processes, all override and special condition processes, eligibility processes, and all required state and federal reporting processes. Creates and updates written documentation of all financial aid procedures, policies and practices and disseminates that documentation to all financial aid stakeholders.Works with Business Office staff to reconcile all financial aid accounts on a regular basis and provides information to the Vice President for Student Services regarding financial aid accounts on a predetermined schedule. Oversees and ensures that the College's Veterans Affairs certification process is efficient, timely and accurate. Ensures that a clear, concise, and efficient communication plan to inform and update students is in place and modified as necessary. Ensures the effective use of technology within the financial aid office and recommends improvements to increase efficiency within the office. Attends regular training sessions and updates staff to ensure the office is compliance with all regulations and best practices.Ensures that all financial aid staff are appropriately trained and deliver optimal services to all students, staff, and College stakeholders. Ensures that all student financial aid materials both printed and in an electronic format are current and appropriate. Establishes and maintains contact with high schools in SCC's service area to determine their needs and how the College can assist their students.Works closely with colleagues in student services and campus stakeholders to ensure student success. Ensures that the Financial Aid Appeals Committee fulfills its duties in timely and efficient manner. The position either serves as chair of that committee or appoints, as their designee, another financial aid staff member as chair. Develops and maintains the office budget and staffing pattern, ensuring adequate resources are available to assist students.Attends and represents the office of financial aid and/or the division of student services on committees and task forces. Other duties, as assigned.
OPPORTUNITIES

The Director of Financial Aid will create and maintain the most up to date business practices for processing aid, significantly improve the student information and communication processes and as a result increase participation in federal and state financial aid programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, counseling, guidance, public administration or related field. Three or more years of full time work experience in higher education financial aid or five or more years of full time work experience in a supervisory administrative position in higher education related to student services.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Master's degree in business, accounting, student affairs, public administration or a related field. Three or more years work experience providing supervision or leadership to a financial aid department or related department in a higher education setting. Community college experience is desired and the willingness to learn to communicate in another language is preferred.
