The Wellness Instructor conducts assessments, develops, and implements training regimens, provides motivated fitness coaching, facilitates science-based workforce interventions, and monitors fitness areas to assist members in wellness programs and training.

Conducts fitness and health risk assessments and baseline biometric testing. Reviews health history questionnaires to assess risk factors that may require medical clearance. Compiles and manages member intervention and fitness data using relevant programs. Develops and implements structured exercise programs for members, such as personal training. Monitors participants engaged in fitness and intervention programs. Develops and presents fitness and intervention educational sessions to members. Answers members' questions and instructs them on how to operate equipment. Ensures members are following policies and procedures in the fitness areas. Supervises fitness area and classrooms and inspects cardio, training, and functional equipment for damage, wear, loss, and improper usage. Maintains a clean fitness area at all times and ensures equipment is ready for member use. Participates in selected continuing educational and recertification classes. Assists wellness programs and membership staff in facilitation of orientations, educational programs, and marketing campaigns. Adheres to University and unit-level policies, procedures, and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Department Specific Functions

  • Be prepared to assist in case of a medical emergency or facility evacuation. Provide basic first aid and blood pressure checks. Be prepared to perform CPR and use AED machines if needed. Call 911 and Public Safety when appropriate.
  • Develop, implement, and lead fitness workshops and programs for general populations such as small group training, EZFit, Workout of the Day/Week, circuit training, and more.
  • Transition clients graduating from clinical programs into programs for general populations.
  • Assist with recruitment, supervision, and mentoring of interns, student employees and part-time personal trainers.
  • Assist with the evaluation, design and instruction of group exercise classes as requested.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
