Job Summary
Working under direct supervision, the employee performs a variety of housekeeping duties. The supervisor schedules the work and provides instructions. This position is a 60% FTE with a work schedule: Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 3:30pm.
Job Duties
General Maintenance (both public and private space)
- Perform or oversee and manage all day to day housekeeping and light custodial needs for the main house and outbuildings, including garage, gardener's room and well house.
- Supervise occasional heavy cleaning assistance.
- Clean silver and other household items.
- Keep outdoor furniture clean including cushions. Oil teak furniture annually in early autumn. Store cushions in winter. Deep clean in spring before setting out again.
- Clean and prepare fireplaces; fill wood boxes.
- Maintain adequate stock of cleaning supplies and bathroom supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.
- Work with other university staff to ensure efficiency and service in the residence.
- Handle personal needs including laundry, ironing, shoe cleaning, pick up and delivery of laundry and cleaning.
- If residents wish, tidy baths daily and straighten personal/private use areas.
- Run other errands as needed.
- May prepare occasional meals.
- Work with residents to maintain stock of food items. Purchase and unpack groceries.
- May assist with all entertainment functions at residence.
- Prepare the residence including outdoor terraces for caterers and guests according to checklist.
- Supervise delivery and pick-up of special equipment for events.
- Assist event coordinators in the set-up and take-down for events.
- Oversee set-up of equipment and audio visuals when necessary.
- May purchase and prepare beverages and other refreshments for meetings and other functions.
- Make sure Chiavari chairs are covered and properly stored in the well house between events.
- At least three years' experience and proven expertise as a professional housekeeper.
- Experience/ familiarity with social protocol for business events.
- Some proficiency and comfort with meal preparation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to work independently.
- Ability to withstand extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting
- Ability to coordinate work and oversee projects.
- Individual positions may require ability to lift moderately heavy items, range for most positions is 25 to 75 pounds
- Ability to climb and work from stepladders
- Good English language skills, written and oral.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion.
- Availability to work occasional overtime or flexible time.
- Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license and car (must run daily errands).
- Spanish language skills helpful though not necessary.
