General Statement of Responsibilities

This is a temporary staffing pool for on-call employment in the Facilities department. The pool will remain open until December 2019 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. Typically at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performance of a variety of manual and skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. Performs work of a general custodial nature including mopping, vacuuming, changing light bulbs, emptying trash. Makes routine repairs and adjustments to plumbing lines and fixtures, furniture, doors, and windows. May perform some general groundskeeping functions, including mowing, trimming, weed control, irrigation, and the operation and maintenance of grounds equipment. Does basic building repairs and provides campus safety checks.

Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities & Operations.

Examples of Duties - Essential Functions

  1. Performs interior and exterior building maintenance, including doors, windows, general repair, and painting.
  2. Locks and unlocks buildings.
  3. Vacuums, sweeps and mops floors.
  4. Cleans and stocks restrooms.
  5. Dusts and polishes furniture; empties trash and recycling containers.
  6. Aids distressed vehicles on campus and responds to requests for assistance.
  7. Performs minor building systems maintenance, including heaters, fans, and plumbing.
  8. Does set up and tear down for events and classes.
  9. Performs office moves and prepares new space for move-in.
  10. Provides exterior site and grounds maintenance and custodial.
  11. Performs general groundskeeping, mowing, trimming, and deliveries.
  12. Ensures each building has an up-to-date Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) book.
  13. Provides campus safety and litter patrol of grounds and parking lots.
  14. Figures job supplies.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Screening Criteria

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma is required. Two years' skilled maintenance, groundskeeping, and basic custodial experience, preferably in an institutional setting, required.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

License: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record at the time of hire is are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)). Custodial training certificates preferred.

Knowledge of: Hand and power tools, basic electricity, plumbing, and heating/air conditioning; basic custodial equipment and groundskeeping equipment.

Skills: Diagnostic and repair skill; computer skills; verbal and written communication skills; skill in operation of tools and equipment.

Ability to: Quickly and efficiently diagnose maintenance problems and make repairs; physically lift heavy items; identify tasks to be completed; use and maintain tools and equipment; read instructions; work any shift at any location throughout the RCC District. Pass a criminal background check.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for about half of the daily work period (about 50%) which is spent sitting or standing while operating tools, machinery, cleaning and other equipment, computer keyboard, and standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 25 lbs. daily, 25-60 lbs. occasionally, and 60-100 lbs. rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors and is frequently subject to fumes, chemicals, dust, and excess noise; and is secondarily working outdoors and is subject to weather conditions in addition to fumes, chemicals, dust, and excess noise. Where appropriate, personal protective equipment will be issued and the employee will be trained in its proper application and use.

Pay rate is $13.00 per hour. This is a temporary staff position (NTE 599 hrs/calendar year) and not eligible for benefits.
