Job Description:

The Writing Initiative at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure track position as Instructor - 10 Months. The teaching load will be 3/3, with additional responsibilities that include leading weekly pedagogy group meetings, mentoring and acting as the instructor of record for several graduate instructors and adjuncts, conducting classroom observations, participating in our pre-fall orientation, preparing professional development workshops, and engaging in curriculum assessment and development.

Currently, almost all our course offerings are first-year writing courses focused on academic, argumentative writing, so candidates should have experience teaching such classes and expect to teach them for our program. However, we are planning to expand our course offerings, and we are also looking for candidates who have training and experience in one or more of the following areas: digital rhetoric, cultural rhetoric, civic discourse, public advocacy writing, professional writing, and/or writing across the curriculum. Interest or experience in curriculum design, assessment practices, and working with multilingual and developing writers is also preferable.

Requirements:

Minimal Qualifications:

• Master's level degree specializing in rhetoric, composition, writing studies, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience and demonstrated success teaching academic writing to diverse students at the college/university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD level degree specializing in in rhetoric, composition, writing studies, or a related field.
• Demonstrated excellence in writing pedagogy and dedication to student success.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students with a wide range of skills and abilities, including multilingual and developing writers.
• Demonstrated experience or interest in digital rhetoric, cultural rhetoric, civic discourse, public advocacy writing, professional writing, and/or writing across the curriculum.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in curriculum design and assessment practices.
