Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

The Assistant to the Dean in the Watson School Dean's Office supports the Dean to ensure he is efficient and effective. This person would be an integral member of the Watson School Dean's Office, and consequently would work closely with members of the Dean's Office and other staff and faculty throughout the campus.

- The person in this position will work closely with the Dean of the Watson School in:
- The planning, implementation, and the assessment and evaluation of strategic initiatives and special projects
- Monitoring and supporting current initiatives
- Conducting research; gathering, compiling and analyzing appropriate data
- Developing optimal methods of presentation of data/information to a variety of audiences
- Assist the Dean with exploring new partnerships, while strengthening on-going relationships/partnerships with carefully selected universities, both nationally and internationally.
- Work closely with the Dean in the planning, implementation, and assessment of strategic international initiatives and special projects.
- Monitor and support current international initiatives; conduct research; gather, compile and analyze appropriate data; develop and execute benchmarking efforts vis-a-vis other organizations, including other peer and aspirational campuses and schools.
- Organize and develop an international partnership growth model in collaboration with Watson School leadership; and if needed, present and discuss the plan with other campus constituencies. This would include, but not be limited to, developing agreements with international academic institutions, planning and organizing their visits to our campus, and helping to initiate, grow and sustain collaborations.
- Arrange international travel plans and detailed itineraries for the Dean of the Watson School and other participants, communicating with representatives at various international universities/ partners.
- Travel to assist the Dean with developing and maintaining these international relationships.
- Assist the Dean with preparing for various meetings and in responding to requests from internal and external customers.
- Prepare the Dean's external and internal formal communications to faculty, staff, students, campus partners and other external constituencies from inception through publication.
- Assess and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the Watson School through key performance indicators using appropriate core measures. Responsible for the preparation of data and the analysis associated with the core measures.
- Communicate with university faculty, staff and students and off-campus constituents on behalf of the Dean. This could include the use of social media platforms.
- Collaborate with university colleagues on various projects, including colleagues in the Watson School Dean's Office, Departments, the University President's Office, the Provost's Office, Office of International Education and Global Affairs, other academic units and the University's Communications & Marketing Office. Projects/initiatives could include but not be limited to (i) Engineers Week (events) and (ii) working on outreach events.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of five years of professional work experience is required, in a fast paced environment
- International travel experience is required; must be able to travel domestically and internationally. It is expected that travel (domestic and international) will be a significant part of this job
- Must possess strong oral/written communication skills and technical expertise in business management tools including spreadsheets, word processing, presentation tools, databases, and social media; proficient at editing/updating web-based information
- An energetic individual with excellent customer service skills, must be highly motivated and detailed oriented with the flexibility to multi-task while concurrently working on several projects with competing priorities and deadlines, and the ability to change direction as needs require; able to work well under pressure
- Must be very personable with demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including faculty, staff, senior administrators, industry partners, students and visitors
- Must be willing to learn, must be able to demonstrate initiative, and should have a record of exceeding expectations
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion
- Able to work weekends and evenings, if needed
Preferred:
- Master's preferred
- Record of progressively responsible experience

History
Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.
Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.
In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.
In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
