Job Details
The Department of Family Medicine is one of eleven clinical departments at the Brody School of Medicine. The purpose of the department is to improve the health of the people of eastern North Carolina through leadership in Family Medicine education, research and health care services. The department provides accessible, high quality health care for its patients.
The Department of Family Medicine consists of seven divisions, as well as a central administration office. Each division has a responsibility that supports the overall mission of the department. The divisions include educational development, research, medical student education, residency, geriatrics, clinical services, and sports medicine. Clinical activities take place in the Family Medicine Center, Robert and Frances Monk Geriatric Center, Firetower Medical Office, nursing homes, Vidant Medical Center and in the community.
Job DutiesThe Department of Family Medicine is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to assist with the flow of clinic patients in the Family Medicine Center. Responsibilities of this position include performing patient workups, assisting health care providers with clinical procedures, administering medications, and performing basic laboratory tests. Operation hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with extended hours on Monday and Thursday evenings.
If not already certified, please note that you must receive your Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification within 6 months from your start date for continued employment.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.Minimum Education/ExperienceDemonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or, requires successful completion of the requirements from an accredited medical assisting program that permit eligibility to sit for a national certification exam.
License or Certification required by statute or regulationCertification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is required. If not CMA certified, candidates should have successfully completed the requirements from an accredited medical assisting program that permit eligibility to sit for a national CMA certification (AAMA) exam within six months of employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/EducationCurrent basic CPR certification is preferred.
Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and the basic computer skills needed for entering data into the electronic medical record. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial.
Experience in primary care and/or medical office clinical experience (including knowledge of vital sign measurements, injection protocols, pulmonary function tests, and EKG testing).
License or Certification required by the DepartmentCertification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is required.
