Campus Living has responsibility for a complex system of operations which includes fifteen residence halls housing 5,500 resident students, nine dining hall locations, and one transit operations complex. These areas include: facility management (maintenance, repairs, renovations, housekeeping), fiscal management (budget preparation, fiscal monitoring, accounts payable and receivables, debt service accounting), administrative services (contracting and leasing, marketing of services, establishment and enforcement of departmental policy and procedures, summer conferences, promotions and operations, neighborhood service office operations, central office operations), and residence life (live-in professional and para-professional staff, community development, educational programming, student activities, resident discipline, staff development and training, development and teaching of the resident advisor class).
The primary purpose of Dining Services is to provide administrative direction to the Campus Dining Program through oversight of the food service contractors’ contract; operation of the meal plan access control system; and control of the revenue, billing, and budgeting procedures of the department. The mission of the Department of Dining Services is to provide a quality food service program that enhances the quality of life on the campus of East Carolina University.
The normal work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The week prior to and immediately after each semester’s opening is particularly busy and will require additional work hours during evenings and on weekends
Job DutiesThe primary purpose of this position is to provide accurate and timely reports and administrative support, provide excellent customer service and to help customers with meal plan payments or changes to their meal plan. Such duties include corresponding with their administrative office in paying invoices, reconciling meal plan reports, attending necessary meetings, working together in marketing initiatives, etc. This individual must be adaptable to new computer software and programs as they are utilized. Due to the nature of the work assignments changing semester-to-semester, the individual must be flexible, organized, and have the ability to make sound judgments. This position works with a computer-controlled meal plan system and the university student database, which are both in constant states of evolution, and call for new procedures and knowledge. The position performs data entry of dining information, reconciles accounts in Banner reconciles an assortment of bills, creates spreadsheets, accesses and changes students dining accounts, reconciles refunds, composes and edits documents. The candidate in this position will have to make decisions-making as to the correct screens to utilize in the student database and the person in this position will have to have an extremely high rate of accuracy. Some of these decisions include, deciding how much refund to give students, deciding which departmental policies are applied in different situations, deciding which times are suitable for arranging meetings and decisions as to how to correct errors that have been made. In making these decisions employee refers to their knowledge, various documents, student database, and other departments as necessary

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/EducationThis position requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Individual should have good judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Should be able to resolve problems, handle complaints, answer questions, and interpret and explain policy. Should have an advanced knowledge of Office Suite programs and other campus software systems (Banner; student database). Should be computer literate. Should have knowledge of standard bookkeeping and accounting practices. Knowledge of office work techniques and the ability to organize workflow and coordinate essential tasks are a must.
