The Department of Pharmacology consists of 11 full-time faculty members, 7 full-time Research Technicians, two full-time secretaries and thirteen graduate students. The department teaches Medical Pharmacology and Therapeutics to medical and graduate students and teaches Medical Pharmacology to the Physician Assistant students. A wide variety of specialized courses for graduate students are also taught. The educational objective of the department is to provide a sound basic foundation upon which medical students may build rational approaches to drug therapy regardless of the area of medical or surgical specialization. The graduate program through the Ph.D. in Pharmacology is broadly based to prepare students for careers in academics, research, government, industry and medicine.

In addition to their teaching duties, each of the faculty has a research laboratory and laboratory technician and performs research in his/her area of expertise. Faculty are expected to apply for grant support and to publish results of their research in professional journals.

Job Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated research technician for the support of several technical aspects of our lab. The successful individual will conduct work involving surgical procedures in rodents, monitor animal behavior, and basic molecular biology and histological procedures. The essential research support functions will include performing/assisting in vivo experiments in an animal research laboratory, recording results of experiments according to standard laboratory techniques, maintaining cell cultures, maintaining animal colonies, performing PCR and immunohistochemical procedures, performing related job duties as required.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Qualified applicants will have previous experience in small animal surgeries, molecular biology and basic histological procedures. Additional qualifications include demonstrated organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to carry out responsibilities in a collaborative environment.
