As part of our recruiting efforts, the UW Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine seeks to hire one tenure track faculty member in human genomics and/or precision medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent and highly collaborative research program focused on novel approaches to the functional assessment of genomic and/or epigenomic variants associated with cancer and other human diseases. The tenure home of the successful applicant will be determined at the time of hire in a Department of the School of Medicine and Public Health. Physician-scientist candidates requiring access to patient care will have the opportunity for joint appointments with an appropriate clinical department.Principal Duties:
The successful candidate will have the majority of their time protected for the development of an internationally recognized collaborative research program that focuses on the functional assessment of genomic and/or epigenomic variants. They also will be expected to 1) acquire and sustain robust extramural research funding, 2) teach students and postdoctoral trainees, 3) teach in an area commensurate with their research expertise, 4) participate in faculty governance, and 5) participate in professional, public, and university service.
In addition, as a faculty member of the Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine, the successful candidate is expected to be an active participant in center-wide research and educational activities as well as interact and collaborate with Center investigators, clinicians and trainees, so as to promote the mission of the Center and advance human genomics research at UW-Madison.
The candidate must fulfill University requirements to obtain tenure. The tenure home of the successful applicant will be from amongst a number of participating basic and clinical SMPH departments, including Biomolecular Chemistry, Medicine, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Pediatrics, and Medical Genetics with the opportunity for joint appointments in others where applicable.

At least three (3) years of post-doctoral training in the functional assessment of human genomic and/or epigenomic variants is preferred. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated potential for excellence in human genomics exemplified through their publications, grants, teaching, or seminars. All candidates must have proven success in leading and conducting research and teaching appropriate to their stage of career. Associate/Full Professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials for appointment with tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). A key consideration is the ability to and interest in working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment.Additional Information:

The Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine (CHGPM) was recently established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to lead a large-scale expansion of the University's activities in applied genomics and personalized medicine. The CHGPM's multifaceted application of genomic sciences to clinical medicine encompasses basic, translational and clinical research as well as educational activities and community outreach. The Center now is entering a phase of rapid growth, recruiting multiple tenure-track faculty with expertise relevant to advancing scientific knowledge relevant to genomic medicine and developing new strategies for improving health.
As a member of the Center, the successful candidate will have laboratory space in the Center's new facilities as well as significant financial resources for their research program. They also will have access to all of the benefits of a preeminent public research university that is 6th in the nation in research funding, including an extensive computational infrastructure as well as substantial omics-related core facilities. The Departments of Medical Genetics and Genetics, the Waisman Center, the Genome Center of Wisconsin, the UW Biotechnology Center, and the Carbone Cancer Center provide additional support for the local genetics/genomics community, which hosts the oldest and largest NIH-funded training graduate program in genetics, a MSc genetic counselling program, and ABMG-accredited fellowship programs.
The successful candidate will have access to patient cohorts generated from the Center's clinical research activities, including a gene discovery-oriented Undiagnosed Diseases Program and a state-wide network for rapid genome sequencing of newborns. In addition, there are multiple opportunities for collaboration with scientists and clinicians at UW-Madison and its affiliates, including UW Health and the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute.
