TENURE TRACK POSITION, OPEN RANK, ELEMENTARY EDUCATION, LITERACY OR SPECIAL EDUCATION

The Education Studies Department of Skidmore College, a selective liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position, beginning September 2020.

Premised on a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, faculty in the Education Studies Department prepare students for initial certification in New York State, grades 1-6. In addition, the Department’s on-campus lab school, the Early Childhood Center, provides a resource for teaching and research.

Preferred qualifications for this position include a strong commitment to social justice, teaching experience at the college and/or elementary school level, a robust commitment to undergraduate teacher education within a liberal arts context, and the experience or ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Skidmore is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and service. A Ph.D. or Ed. D. is required.

The teaching load for this position is 5 courses each academic year. Expertise in special education in the elementary school setting or in elementary literacy education, including language acquisition and development and instructional methods for English language learners, is required.

Candidates wishing to be considered at rank as Associate/Full Professor will demonstrate a successful teaching and scholarly record. Preferred qualifications include higher education leadership experience, field-based teaching, and knowledge of teacher education program accreditation.
