Job FieldThe Department of Management, University of Toronto Scarborough, invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure stream appointment in Finance. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor and will commence July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Finance, with a demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. To that end, we seek individuals with research interests in finance with a focus on capital markets, investments or FinTech. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of innovative and independent research at the highest international level and a highly successful track record of research funding. They must have an established and sustained record of scholarly accomplishment chiefly demonstrated by sustained publications in leading academic journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application, a teaching dossier (including a teaching statement, sample course outlines and related materials, and teaching evaluations), strong endorsements from referees, and evidence of strong communication and expository skills, which can be demonstrated during the interview and seminar presentation for shortlisted candidates. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of capital markets/investments, especially FinTech. Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

Responsibilities may include advancing the Finance area’s research agenda and teaching undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The successful candidate will also be expected to take a leadership support role in our professional master program in Accounting and Finance (MAccFin) and a new double-degree program in quantitative finance.

The successful candidate will be a member of the tri-campus Graduate Department of Management at the University of Toronto, will be cross-appointed to the Rotman School of Management and will be expected to participate in the Graduate Department of Management’s graduate programs.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
