Job Description

Under the direction of the Department Chair, responsibilities of the successful applicant will include: teach a range of math courses from Developmental Mathematics to Calculus, but with primary workload coming from Stretch/ Co-Requisite Courses and/or Developmental Lab Courses; carry out related curriculum/course development projects; advise students; serve on college committees; maintain membership in professional organizations and develop liaisons with colleagues in the field; and undertake other community service responsibilities related to a full-time faculty position. The incumbent is expected to represent the College in a positive manner and work as a team player with colleagues in the department. Other responsibilities include maintaining currency in teaching techniques, participation in departmental and college-wide committees, and campus service. Please note that the College of Southern Nevada is a multi-campus College with some course offerings occurring in the evening and weekends, full-time faculty may be required to teach on multiple campuses and/or nights and weekends during any given semester.

Teaching duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Teaching assignments will be courses ranging from Developmental Mathematics up to Advanced Calculus (this may also include courses in General Education Mathematics or Math for Elementary Education Teachers). Specific Courses that will be taught are: Stretch/ Co-Requisite Transferable Math Courses; Developmental Math Lab Courses taught with an Emporium Style; and any future courses that are developed and required by the department.
  • Assigned courses, days, times and/or locations may vary from semester to semester.
  • Assignments may be any combination of classroom and online modes.
  • Assignments may be located on any combination of CSN's several campuses.
  • Assignments may be any combination of morning, afternoon and evening hours.
  • Assignments may be any combination of any days of the week including weekends.
  • Assignments may be any combination of courses for which instructor is qualified.


Leadership may include, but not be limited to, any of the following:
  • Leader and/or membership in department and college-wide committees.
  • Collaborate with other Mathematics faculty in developing courses and selecting textbooks.
  • Representing the Department or College at a number of on/off campus events.


Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited College or University in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field and 18 or more graduate-level credits in Math or Statistics courses.


Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated evidence of outstanding ability as a teacher in proportion with experience. This could include:
  • Previous teaching experience especially in developmental Mathematics.
  • Have experience working with a diverse student body and workforce.
  • Technology integration in the classroom.
  • Online and alternative methods of instruction including hybrid, flipped classes, emporium style, lab classes, etc.
  • Experience redesigning or teaching new courses.
  • Ability to present to students a variety of learning styles and varied levels of preparation.
  • Have a passion for teaching.
  • Ability to collaborate with other math faculty as well as other CSN instructors.
  • Demonstrated evidence of Mathematical knowledge beyond the minimum qualifications through graduate coursework in Mathematics and related fields.


Demonstrated understanding of the role of Mathematics in the community college. This could include:
  • An understanding of the typical community college student.
  • An understanding of the mission of the community college.
  • An awareness of current issues and pedagogical practices that have an impact on community college mathematics education.
  • An understanding of the national trends in developmental education.


Demonstrated evidence of professional development and service in proportion with experience. This could include:
  • Service on committees.
  • Presentations at conferences.
  • Have made contributions to the mathematics community beyond classroom instruction with instructional materials (such as supplemental handouts, textbooks, technology applications, videos, etc.).
  • Working on programs that support student success.
  • Have attended training opportunities, meeting, or conferences.


Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
