Senior Advisor to the Dean

Position Summary

This position includes two roles: The Senior Advisor to the Dean for Clinical Affairs and Director of Strategy and Integration in Health Affairs. The Senior Advisor to the Dean for Clinical Affairs for the College of Human Medicine reports to the Dean of the College of Human Medicine. The Senior Advisor leads the CHM clinical practice, partnering with the department chairs, division directors and departmental administrators in optimizing the clinical practice. The Senior Advisor to the Dean will develop and guide the implementation of patient- and family- centered, value-based care that is financially sustainable and is empowering of all the missions of the college. The Senior Advisor for Clinical Affairs will be particularly skilled in partnering with the health colleges and the practice plan. The Director of Strategy and Integration will assist in internal strategic planning for Health Affairs that targets broad university level goals in health affairs, across the missions of the university and identifies organizational and policy structures to support the strategic plan. The Director of Strategy and Integration will also assist in developing an external strategic plan for Health Affairs, recognizing the shift to pay-for-value and the opportunities to transform health resultant from MSU’s stature as an R1 land grant university with community-based health colleges. The Director of Strategy and Integration in Health Affairs at MSU reports to the Associate Provost and Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 6 years of progressively advanced leadership experience in academic physician practice management including responsibility for strategic planning leading to business and financial practice growth, development and maintenance of strong physician relations, conceiving and leading implementation of standardized best practices; knowledge and familiarity with regulatory compliance issues, joint ventures, physician compensation programs; ability to drive a consensus process to effect significant organizational change. The ideal candidate will be politically astute, flexible, a collaborative leader who motivates and empowers others while holding them accountable and a skilled negotiator.
