Job Details

Nazareth College seeks candidates for a full-time, Professional Practice position of assistant professor of Visual Communication Design, beginning fall 2020. The successful candidate will have significant experience both as a design professional and as a design educator, with technical and critical expertise, and a capacity to steer curricular and pedagogical change in the areas of design criticism and professional preparation.

The candidate will teach courses that may include, but are not be limited to, introductory and advanced graphic design courses in design professional practices and processes, typography, semiotics, branding and identity, contemporary design criticism and design history, publication and layout design, advertising, and web design. All faculty are expected to participate in undergraduate advising, effectively collaborate with department faculty and faculty across disciplines, mentor students and supervise student-related activities, and participate in committee service within the department, and college.

A BFA degree in Graphic Design (or equivalent professional degree and/or experience) required. 

Preferred: a minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college level and two years of professional experience in the field. Industry experience is strongly desirable.

Applicants should present evidence of leadership ability and the potential to make significant contributions in their field of practice. They should have a strong commitment to design education and a keen interest in and ability with design-related technologies; knowledge of contemporary design issues and the history of design; competency with Macintosh platform and appropriate software applications for both interactive and print communications. Preferred qualifications: Master of Fine Arts or equivalent advanced degree in graphic/communication design and/or significant experience in the field. Candidate should demonstrate a commitment to remain current in contemporary issues in technology and theory and should foster critical and comparative thinking in a liberal arts environment.
