General Description / Primary Purpose

The Assistant Vice President Development Alumni Engagement will be reporting to the Vice President of University Development and Alumni Engagement. This position will oversee the following offices within the Division of University Development and Alumni Engagement: Annual Giving, Donor Stewardship and Engagement, Alumni Engagement, and Athletics fundraising.

The AVP is a senior staff member and will be part of the UDAE senior team. The AVP will play a critical role in the growth of alumni annual giving as well as create a cohesive, groundbreaking new strategies and outreach efforts for building commitment and engagement among UNF’s alumni and friends. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Alumni Board relations and engagement; Foundation Board committee support; programming and events; leadership and staff development; and data acquisition and analysis.

Develop and implement annual operating plans for respective areas. Recruit, supervise, support and evaluate all staff in the Annual Giving, Athletics, Donor Engagement and Stewardship and Alumni Engagement programs.

Alumni Engagement – develop and implement a wide range of programs and services that will position UNF as an increasingly valued resource for its graduates including networking and career development opportunities. Increase the profile of the alumni engagement program through all available means including print and electronic communication, web presence, social media presence, awards and recognition efforts. Implement effective on and off-campus events and programs. Advocate to facilitate greater awareness of University attributes and aspirations to deepen connections between alumni and University faculty, staff and students. Develop and fulfill of data-focused strategies including program dashboards and affinity models to support program planning, implementation and evaluation. Serve as primary liaison for the Alumni Association Board.

Annual Giving – formulate, implement and evaluate all elements of the university’s Annual Giving program with an emphasis on meeting annual fundraising goals, including growth in dollars raised, increased overall donor participation and retention rates. Design creative annual giving strategies including communication and stewardship efforts that will encourage donor participation and continuous engagement, secure unrestricted gifts from constituencies and generate long-term donor relationships. Create and implement short- and long-term annual giving strategies for the UNF Annual Fund that engages and solicits alumni, parents, faculty, staff, friends and community members. Track and analyze annual giving results, recommend and implement strategies for improvement. Plan, organize and manage annual giving clubs, which includes developing a comprehensive campaign to recruit, retain and steward donors through communications, events, and face to face visits. Plan, organize and execute comprehensive phone, mail, e-philanthropy campaigns, as well as innovative annual leadership giving and student philanthropy programs.

Athletics – oversee fundraising strategies to ensure maximum impact on athletics; stay in close communication with the Athletic Director and coaches to coordinate fundraising performance and priorities. Serve as primary liaison for the Osprey Club.

Plan and manage the departmental budget to maximize fundraising success. Serve as UDAE lead in the production of the annual donor honor roll and annual report. Engage ongoing research and survey methodologies to support program design and evaluation.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and five years of experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and seven years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Faculty Position Required QualificationsDepartmental Requirements

Preference given to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
Extensive knowledge of development practices, donor data processes, and fundraising techniques including current best practices in development, annual giving and alumni engagement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in leading, mentoring, managing a strong professional team and will have knowledge of best practices in metric-driven, market-tested programs.

Experience leading a complex organization with multiple diverse constituencies through a time of deliberate program evolution. Experience developing internal and external partnerships to support mission and goals of an organization by demonstrating collaboration and an entrepreneurial orientation.

Experience developing a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone/mail, personal visitation and volunteer engagement all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of fundraising support. Have the capacity to accelerate growth in alumni and annual giving and be an innovative, forward-thinking leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, staff, faculty and alumni of all ages and demographics. Have the ability to think strategically, generate new ideas, plans, and set goals and objectives, as well as implement and follow-through on these goals.

Comprehensive fundraising campaign experience is preferred. Bachelor’s degree and five or more years of demonstrated leadership experience preferably in higher education is required. Weekend and evening availability is essential. Some travel is required.
