Our Opportunity

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks to establish a pool of self-motivated, organized, and enthusiastic individuals to serve as part-time Food Service Workers in the Culinary Arts department. Food Service Workers will be responsible for assisting in the kitchen with food preparation, cleaning, stocking food items, and general kitchen duties.

Salaries listed are for non-student, part-time hourly employees.

What You'll Do

  • Clean and assist in dishwashing and any other general kitchen work.
  • Cashiering on a POS system and writing tickets
  • Prepare and cook to order a variety of foods that require short preparation time
  • Catering set up/break down
  • Greet customers, wait tables and provide excellent customer service to customers entering and leaving the facility
  • Maintain, refill, and stock café area

This position will work primarily indoors in a food service setting, operate kitchen equipment and work with hot surfaces and sharp objects. Execute all necessary safety procedures when working with these items. The food service environment requires manual dexterity, mobility and a moderate amount of physical effort. Proper safety measures are to be taken while in the kitchen. May include travel in SPSCC vehicle to off-site catering functions, including Lacey Campus.

The ability to work under pressure and accommodate numerous interruptions while performing multiple tasks is essential. This position may require moving boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications You Possess


  • Previous customer service and cashier experience
  • Food handling experience and current Washington state food handlers permit
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand for many hours
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude

CONDITIONS OF PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT
Non-permanent employees under the provisions of WAC 357-19-435 are only authorized to work up to a maximum of 1050 hours in any twelve (12) consecutive- month period from the original date of hire. Employment with the college could end any time. All Non-permanent employees who work more than 350 hours during their anniversary year will be covered by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement. At that time, the employer will furnish the employee with a dues authorization form for payroll deduction of union dues.
