Job Details
Characteristic duties and essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Work in close collaboration with Hofstra University faculty, academic leadership, students and colleagues on Hofstra’s Information Technology team to develop and implement best-in-class, impactful and effective user interfaces for Hofstra University Online courses and content.
• Monitor user experience for Hofstra and competing online programs, and implement a continuous improvement program that maintains very high levels of student satisfaction and a highly intuitive user experience in online courses and content.
• Provide one-to-one support for faculty, working closely together to consult and support the development of academic media content.
• Participate with EdTech colleagues in presenting workshops, events, and exploratory technologies that further the work of the team and Hofstra University Online.
• Support faculty in their use of the LMS and its suite of integrated tools.
• Explore and support various cutting-edge and interactive technologies, such as AR/VR, adaptive learning, and artificial intelligence for use in online teaching and research.
• Be flexible, innovative, creative, and have a passion for our work in supporting faculty, students, and online programs.
• Work in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously with on-time deliverables.
This position may require some evening, nighttime and weekend work. In addition, he/she will be responsible for all work as assigned.
Qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree in design, instructional design, UI/UX, educational technology or a related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
• Experience with modern UI/UX methods and principles including graphic design and image asset development.
• Skilled in HTML and CSS.
• Knowledge of teaching, learning, pedagogy, and faculty development.
• Understanding of LMSs, educational software, and innovative technologies specific to the delivery of online courses and programs.
• Willingness to troubleshoot problems and discover solutions to solving those problems.
• Demonstrated ability to work closely and carefully with faculty, the IT team and other members of the Hofstra community to maintain an atmosphere of courtesy, professionalism and strong service.
• Experience working in higher education and experience with online and hybrid course development are preferred.
• Evidence of successful and progressively responsible roles in information technology or related area (including growth in levels of responsibility, complexity of work, numbers and sophistication of employees) related to the essential responsibilities listed.
• Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English with the sophistication necessary to effectively communicate technical details to both technical and non-technical individuals.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to carry out the essential responsibilities listed with humility, grace, and optimism.
• Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse and inclusive nature of a distinguished higher education environment.
