The University of British Columbia (UBC), one of Canada’s largest and most innovative universities, invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice President, Alumni and Executive Director, alumni UBC (AVP-ED).

UBC is a global centre for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the 40 best universities in the world – and top 20 public universities. Since 1915, UBC’s West Coast spirit has embraced innovation and challenged the status quo. Its entrepreneurial perspective encourages students, staff, and faculty to challenge convention, lead discovery, and explore new ways of learning. At UBC, bold thinking is given a place to develop into ideas that can change the world.

With campuses in Vancouver and Kelowna, UBC is home to over 62,000 students, including approximately 14,000 international students from 160 countries. These students are supported by 15,000 faculty and staff members and an annual budget of $2.5 billion. At just over 100 years old, UBC has over 360,000 alumni around the world, with 10,000 new alumni joining this impressive cohort each year.

UBC recently completed what was then the first, and largest, joint fundraising and alumni campaign in Canadian history. The campaign raised $1.6-billion and more than doubled alumni engagement with the University. UBC has been recognized as one of the top universities globally in development and alumni affairs, with ambitious goals to further innovate in these fields. The AVP-ED reports jointly to the Chair of the UBC Alumni Association and to the Vice President, Development and Alumni Engagement at UBC.

The AVP-ED will work closely with the Alumni Board, university executive team, Deans, students, volunteers, alumni and other partners to ensure alumni UBC is successful in its mission to reach, inspire, and engage alumni through lifelong enrichment. The AVP-ED will be passionate about serving at one of the world’s top universities and providing the leadership to move it forward.

The ideal candidate will be a senior leader in alumni relations at a university with a successful alumni engagement track record. Strong knowledge of best practices in alumni relations, particularly as it relates to deepening alumni engagement, along with experience with major fundraising and/or alumni relations campaigns are assets. Alternatively, candidates might bring executive experience from other organizations or sectors and roles with parallels to the university and alumni engagement context.

As a strategic leader, with exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, the AVP-ED will bring a results-oriented mindset and a commitment to the mission of the University and the Alumni Association.
