The Global Research Institute is currently seeking a Senior Research Analyst to support and improve AidData’s ongoing efforts to design and implement cutting-edge international development research with geospatial data, methods, and tools. The successful candidate will have at least 3-5 years of research experience, with particular expertise in quasi-experimental impact evaluation and geospatial information systems (GIS) in developing country contexts. Experience working with high-performance computing environments is preferred, as is experience engaging with policymakers and practitioners from the global development community. Depending on qualifications, the successful applicant may hold an affiliate appointment as research faculty in an appropriate department and/or interdisciplinary program at William and Mary. This position is based in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as economics, public policy, statistics, international development, public health, or an equivalent combination of education and experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
• 3-5 years of research experience in an academic institution, bilateral or multilateral aid agency, non-governmental organization, or think tank.
• Proficiency in one or both of the following packages: Stata or R
• Proficiency in one or both of the following packages: ArcGIS or QGIS
• Demonstrated ability to design rigorous impact evaluations using quasi-experimental methods, potentially including regression discontinuity, panel data, and/or matching
• Experience dealing with researchers and the global development community
• Excellent analytical skills with ability to research complex issues, evaluate options, consider consequences and recommend solutions
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and complex work environment, carry out assignments in a timely manner, and adapt to changing situations and priorities
• Record of delivering high quality outputs for international development projects or programs, including evaluation reports and/or peer reviewed publications
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and minimal supervision
• Dedicated team player with track record of working collaboratively across institutional and/or disciplinary boundaries
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into jargon-free prose
• Outstanding presentation, communication, and collaborative leadership skills
• Excellent command of the English language, written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications

•A doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, such as economics, public policy, statistics, international development, public health
•A track record of publishing rigorous, peer-reviewed social science research in a reproducible manner (i.e. making data and statistical code publicly available to enable independent, third party replication)
•Proficiency working with high-performance computing environments
•Experience engaging with policymakers and practitioners from the global development community
•Experience working with georeferenced development investment and outcome data
•Ability to integrate sample surveys involving human interviews, administrative data, and/or social media-based data with remotely sensed data to address real-world problems
•Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring data analysts
