The Music Area of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Angelo State University seeks to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Choral Activities. This full-time, tenure-track position calls for an individual with a commitment to undergraduate Music education with the ability to supervise and direct the activities of a growing university choral program.

Typical Duties/Job Duties

Teach, conduct and administer the choral program which includes the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Establish and maintain local and regional recognition and network as a choral conductor. Recruit and retain students in the choral music program. Teach courses in choral methods and choral conducting. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the department and the successful candidate’s range of teaching experience and research interests. Support and attend university-recruiting events. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to departmental and faculty service relative to the position, and be an active member of the university and external community. Reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

Associated Duties: Establish and maintain a high profile and positive presence in the university, community, public schools, and surrounding area. Maintain a successful record of scholarly/creative endeavor, service activities, and teaching responsibilities as defined by the needs of the department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Qualified candidates must possess strong communication and organizational skills, exhibit skill in musicianship, conducting, and rehearsal techniques, exhibit effectiveness as a teacher of university vocal ensembles, successfully recruit and retain students, work collaboratively and collegially within a university environment, and meet the needs of a diverse student body. Skill as a vocalist and knowledge of vocal pedagogy strongly desired.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate or ABD (with doctorate conferred at time of appointment) in music (choral conducting) preferred.
