GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President of Business Affairs/Controller, this position is responsible for timely and accurate completion of the annual budget, financial reporting, account reconciliation, audit preparation and other related accounting duties. This position provides leadership and direct supervision of the financial and grant accounting and payroll functions, and provides the opportunity for additional career growth.  Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Learning, People, Student Success, and Forward Thinking, in all interactions.

Position reports to AVP of Business Affairs and Controller. Incumbent supervises Director of Accounting; Senior Payroll Manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manages the monthly close activities to ensure a timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP and GASB.

2. Oversees audit preparation and serves as a main point of contact for external auditors.

3. Assists with the annual budget development process. Monitors budget and processes budget adjustments. Serve as budget liaison to departments.

4. Supervises the accounting and grant accounting functions, ensuring that all grant related expenditures, revenues and budgets are prepared/tracked in an accurate and timely manner. 

5. Supervises the Payroll function and support related interdepartmental process improvement projects.

6. Assess and provides leadership for process improvement and periodic updates to departmental policies and procedures. Provide training and guidance to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.

7. Reviews and posts monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.

8.Performs other financial analysis and provide recommendations as required. Creates and distributes ad hoc reports as requested.

9. Provide required reports to outside agencies including the Florida oversight and funding agencies

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master's degree in related field required:  accounting, finance, business, etc. CPA preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years of experience directly related to job description with at least two year of supervisory experience required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. Higher education experience preferred. Banner operating software experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal correspondence. Ability to work effectively under pressure. Strong organizational skills.   Ability to represent the college in a professional and informed manner.   Adheres to Florida Statutes, FCS Accounting Manual, and GAAP and GASB in the performance and direction of all duties and activities. Knowledge and experience with higher education or non-profit accounting.
  •  Ability to analyze complex data and make recommendations.
  •  Ability to work confidentially with discretion on privileged and sensitive information.  
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team. Knowledge of software/applications to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate the four College core values of Learning, People, Student Success, and Forward Thinking when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in an office environment. The ability to lift and/or move boxes or items of 30 pounds or less is needed.
