Reporting to and under the general direction of the director of programs and partnerships, the associate director will manage select science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fellowship competitions and develop, implement, and manage experiential civic leadership programs focused on the intersection of STEM and civic practices of service, civic research, advocacy, philanthropy, and/or public policy and governance. This work will be achieved through collaboration with other center for civic leadership (CCL) staff colleagues.

The associate director will teach up to three credits of coursework pertaining to STEM civic engagement. S/he will assist in the cultivation and management of university-community partnerships, faculty partnerships, and alumni networks that enrich civic leadership programs. The associate director may lead special projects or initiatives, develop and lead workshops, and advise graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. S/he may also have the opportunity to teach additional courses and/or serve as the CCL undergraduate advisor.

- Experience fostering civic leadership through advocacy, civic research, service, philanthropy, and/or public policy and governance

- Experience in teaching and/or facilitation

License/Certification Required

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

- Collaborates with CCL staff, faculty, and community partners to develop, implement, and manage experiential civic leadership programs focused on STEM
- Advises STEM specific national fellowships, such as Goldwater, Udall, and Churchill, and provide additional advising for STEM students applying to fellowships like Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Wagoner
- Facilitates selection of the nominees by the Rice faculty committee and submit nominations to national selection committees
