The Central Services Integration (CSI) team provides critical systems and integration services such as UNIX/Linux systems support, systems and services monitoring, configuration management, AuriStor / Andres File System (AFS) management, email relay services, SysNews tools support, and MySQL / MariaDB. The CSI group full range of services include architecture design, vendor satellite image management, NC State standard linux image provisioning, patch management, as well as system installation, administration, maintenance, tuning, and trouble-shooting. The platform that CSI team provides is the foundation for PeopleSoft and other ERP systems. It is also the core IT infrastructure that our entire campus utilizes and all the college IT units integrate with.Essential Job Duties
The Systems Administrator is a team lead for the CSI team providing a critical layer of diverse systems and integration services such as Linux and UNIX systems build, automation, and configuration management. Other services include systems monitoring, file system management, data and file transfer, SysNews tools, and PCI services.
This position provides architecture design, standard Linux image provisioning, patch management, technical training, as well as Linux system installation, administration, maintenance, tuning, and troubleshooting. In addition, the Systems Administrator is required to support security standards for PCI-DSS, NIST 800-171, Endpoint Security, and ISO 27002. This position will also act as a 3rd tier support to other IT professionals on campus and is a member of a 24×7 oncall rotation. The Systems Administrator will employ project management skills to help customers increase reliability of systems / services at NCSU.Other Work/Responsibilities
This position will include but not be limited to: Design, deployment, and maintenance of Central Monitoring, notification ( SMS ), and oncall service.
Central Linux provisioning, application integration deployment with Configuration Management support for customer user base in central linux deployment.
Support of the central MariaDB environment.
General programming work in multiple projects / services supported by the CSI group.Minimum Education/Experience
A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Sciences, plus 5 years of experience working in a medium to large Systems, Dev Ops, or infrastructure environment.Departmental Required Skills
Extensive experience in Linux based operating systems.
Experience in managing / maintaining and designing linux image deployment at scale.
Ability to deal with authentication / authorization, application integration and linux provisioning systems using Git, Foreman, Configuration Management( E.g. Puppet, Ansible, Chef ), Monitoring systems experience( ie. Nagios, iChinga, Zabbix ), or similar systems.
Experience in some level of programming or scripting.
Experience in programming for systems automation and configuration.Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Demonstrated experience with systems administration in a medium to large linux / unix environment.
Application Platform as a Service (aPaas) experience along with monitoring, notification, and maintenance.
Programming or scripting experience with Python, Bash / Bourne scripting, and Ruby
Experience working linux deployment using Foreman, Git, and Configuration Management with Puppet or Ansible
Experience / training in regulatory environments a plush( Eg such as HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27001 ) performing systems hardening, security evaluation / troubleshooting.
Demonstrated programming / scripting experience in a systems / infrastructure environment with Ruby, Python, BASH, Perl, or similar language.
Experience in working with Configuration Management( Eg, Puppet, Ansible, Chef ) at scale.
Certification or hands on experience in Red Hat Satellite a plus.
Knowledge of database deployment, maintenance, and SQL experience a plus in MySQL / MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
RHN / Red Hat Satellite administration experience.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in managing Red Hat Satellite a plus.Required License or Certification
