Advancement Services supports the operations of Alumni Relations, University Development & University Communications. The unit oversees the university’s alumni & donor database, Advance™, Advance BI systems, processing gifts and conducting research about potential contribution opportunities. Advancement Services also maintains financial records, conducts donor research, receipts corporate & individual private gifts following the NC State Standard Operating Procedures for Acceptance of Gifts, administers the corporate matching gifts program, updates & verifies alumni records, manages donor prospect tracking systems, plans and manages gift agreements & endowment reports. The mission of University Advancement is to secure support for NC State University in terms of dollars, service and engagement by delivering an integrated program of development, alumni relations, communications and marketing, and advancement services. Our objective is to build deep and long-term relationships with alumni and other stakeholders and partners that will ensure increased support to NC State in the future.

Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to develop Business Intelligence (BI) solutions and reports to meet the needs of University Advancement and consistent units drawing from Advancement BI systems. This position will primarily use the SAS product Enterprise Guide to create reporting solutions. Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Advancement Information Services (AIS), this position will work with the AIS team and functional offices in order to implement custom BI solutions run on a regular basis by the end-users, one-time as-needed BI solutions per user request, fiscal year-end fundraising reports as well as any other data requested, all with minimal supervision. The position will also work with end users to assist with complex or difficult data materials and documentation related to the use of advance business intelligence solutions for University Advancement customers.

The Business and Technology Applications Analyst serves a critical role in supporting BI systems for fundraising staff at NC State University. After launching the Think and Do the Extraordinary campaign in October of 2016, the focus of Advancement Information Services has shifted away from strictly delivering data to more proactively providing key performance indicators (KPIs) and helpful metrics with which fundraisers can track their progress and performance. Dashboards have become a key part of our entire fundraising operation as they set a common place by which all staff can find important information.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Testing to make sure data tables and information maps in reporting are correctly staged and provide the data they are supposed to.

Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree with nine credit hours in programming and one year of experience in business application consulting or development; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills

Demonstrated experience in systems analysis, business process analysis, requirements gathering, and/or translating business requirements into technical specifications.

Knowledge of SAS BI systems or similar software.

Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

Able to understand and follow complex directions and work in a cooperative group.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Ability to develop working specifications from vague and often changing requirements.

Ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

Ability to sit for extended periods; requires close contact with computer displace, keyboard and mouse for prolonged periods.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Strongly prefer a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering or other relevant field or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Prefer two or more years experience as a user support specialist.

Experience in higher education administrative computing and information services.

Knowledge of advancement data and systems, preferable Ellucian Advance.

Prior experience in a large land grant research institution.
