Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR) recruits, trains, and supports effective teachers within a Christian context. Our mission is to provide students in Memphis neighborhoods with the same, or better, quality of education as is available to any student in our city.

As part of a growing and innovative organization, the MTR Director of Education will work under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director to lead the education team at MTR.

Qualifications
• EdD or PhD in Education
• Teaching license or license-eligible in Tennessee
• Minimum of five years teaching experience in urban context preferred
• Minimum of three years of instructional coaching in urban context preferred
• Minimum of two years in educational leadership in urban context preferred
• Track record of high-impact teaching, learning, and leadership as demonstrated by student achievement data
• Track record of high-impact instructional coaching, learning, and leadership as demonstrated by the student achievement of the teachers coached
• Ability to design courses
• Ability to design a Masters program of study
• Ability to design and provide effective professional development
• Ability to work with a team and ability to lead a team • Goal driven, self-reflective, and analytic problem solver


Responsibilities
• Serve as the Director of the Masters of Urban Education degree
• Design and teach Masters level coursework
• Build relationships with professors, design professional development for professors, and provide feedback to professors
• Serve as the Academic Advisor for all residents
• Lead an educational leadership team consisting of two Residency Directors and a Graduate Development Director
• Work with the educational leadership team to design and meet goals for the team
• Build relationships with education directors and instructional coaches
• Design and lead professional development for instructional coaches
• Design and implement the goal setting and feedback process for education directors and instructional coaches
• Oversee the work of the Department Chairs, Alumni Relations Manager, and Licensing Manager
• Build relationships with and support residents, graduates, and alumni
•Spend time in schools supporting the work of our teachers
• Support, plan, and execute the current professional development opportunities MTR provides to graduates including overseeing and supporting MTRU and Department Chair work
• Create new structures, courses, programs, etc. to continue to improve the professional development offered to the education staff and to teachers
• Build relationships with building principals where our residents and graduates are placed
