DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry is one of the most innovative and productive academic departments in the country, offering challenging career opportunities in the diverse areas of advanced educational programs, cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art clinical services. The department is committed to offering a dynamic learning environment and growing opportunities for its talented and dedicated employees.

The implementation of evidence-based practice into real-world human service settings is an important priority for improving the quality of services and outcomes for individuals and families. Identifying the factors that facilitate successful service implementation and the attainment of desired outcomes requires investigation into the characteristics of and inter-relationships between service delivery strategies, service recipients, service providers, and the organizations and systems within which they are embedded.

Multiple, ongoing research and evaluation studies utilize quantitative and mixed-methods approaches to develop detailed service assessments and improvement recommendations for child welfare, behavioral health, and criminal justice service settings within San Diego County and throughout the State of California. Our studies aim to identify and support both the organizational and individual factors that improve evidence-based practice implementation and sustainability, and the ways in which service systems may establish evidence for existing practice to better inform programs and improve child and family outcomes. Data sources include large administrative data sets as well as original data collected from social service agencies. Study participants include program executives, supervisors, direct service providers, and their clients.

Under supervision, the incumbent will work as a Research Assistant with the Child & Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC) in the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the management of day-to-day operations of multiple, grant- and evaluation contract- funded research studies using community-academic partnerships to improve the implementation and quality of services and the overall use of research evidence in child welfare and behavioral health service systems. The main duties and responsibilities will include: literature reviews, maintaining contact with providers and research participants, coordinating participation retention and tracking of participants, preparing and administering survey instruments, tracking and downloading data using web-based survey programs, managing data using SPSS and web-based data collection programs, assisting with preparing reports and presentations, and attending/documenting weekly team meetings. Other duties will be assigned as needed.
