Dependent upon experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired in at the EHS Spec I or II level.

DESCRIPTION

Applies professional knowledge and expertise related to Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) as a specialty area within EH&S. Under the Supervision of the EH&S Supervisor, this EH&S I/II will assist in the implementation, coordination, maintenance, and support of activities related to injury prevention programs across services and discipline throughout all UC San Diego Health locations. Injury Prevention programs include but not limited to Ergonomics, Safe Patient Handling, Personal Protective Equipment use, Safety Trainings, Sharps Safety, and preventing occupational related injuries.

As part of the Injury and Illness Prevention team, a core job duty will be to follow-up on work-related injury reports to identify opportunities for injury prevention. An active participant in the development and administering of training and education materials that will support compliance with programs that promote workplace safety that will mitigate occupational risk exposures within the health system. Applies strong customer service skills to foster collaboration with different stakeholders in engaging participation in other Injury Prevention programs and Workplace Safety workgroups. Generates data and evaluation reports that quantifies successes and opportunities of the different programs to be provided to affected stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

  • One or more years of relevant experience.

  • A combination of experience, knowledge, and understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations.

  • General knowledge, training, and understanding of EH&S programs.

  • Skill and ability to conduct hazard assessment, incident follow-up, and incident reporting with appropriate plan of action.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and critical thinking.

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to effectively provide presentations to different audiences/groups.
  • Ability to generate, collate, and report data related to program evaluation.
  • One or more years of experience working within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with occupational safety programs and regulatory requirements.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
