Veterinary Clinical Research Nurse

Job Description

Clinical research nurse skilled in implementing a collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach to successfully plan and coordinate hospital based companion-animal clinical trials.

  • Pre-trial responsibilities: Liaise with the sponsoring agency to ensure full understanding of the study protocol and procedures, preparation and submission of regulatory paperwork, development of study documentation tools such as source check sheets, work flow sheets, tracking forms for supplies/equipment/drugs/devices, case report forms and so on, coordinate meetings to discuss the specific requirements for all the departments and personnel involved (laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, finance, and nursing units in a study.
  • Trial responsibilities: Screen, recruit and enroll animals/owners while providing education and obtaining informed consent, meet with each animal/owner to complete health assessments, physical examinations, and questionnaires, and to evaluate each animal/owner in relation to the inclusion/exclusion criteria, as specifically required by each study, follow each animal/owner through the study to monitor treatment, responses to treatment, problems, and adverse events and follow-up.
  • Post-trial responsibilities: Case report forms are analyzed and quality assurance performed to ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice, complete data queries and changes in practice that require follow-up, ensure all medication, supplies, devices and equipment used in the study are accounted for, study closure reports are submitted.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

General skills: Strong organizational skills, high degree of computer proficiency required (specifically MS Word, Excel, Access) detail oriented, works independently and maintains flexible work hours to maximize study enrollment.

Qualifications: Associate's degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited school and 3 to 4 years of experience in a companion animal tertiary care veterinary facility or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Certified Veterinary Technician licensure is required. Bachelor's degree and Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) licensure preferred.

Physical Effort:Typically sitting at a desk or table, Intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, Occasional lifting 25 - 50 lbs.
